A Journey of Growth
Becoming a Deakin International Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar has been one of the most defining experiences of my life so far. University has been more than just lectures and deadlines. It has been a journey of discovering my passions, connecting across cultures, and stepping into new spaces that have challenged and inspired me.
Discovering Learning Design
Through my education units and assignments, I’ve uncovered just how much I love learning design. Writing about progressive education models, and reflecting on critical pedagogy has given me the language to articulate what I’ve always believed that education should empower, include, and inspire. My projects in design thinking and visual communication design, from working in Adobe to experimenting with web design, have allowed me to bring creativity into education, blending artistic expression with practical learning solutions.
Mentoring With Heart
Beyond academics, my work as an Arts and Education Peer Mentor has been a powerful reminder that education is about people first. Hosting online mentoring sessions and participating in workshops and networking events gave me the chance to support my peers in both academic and personal ways, while also learning from their journeys. It has been deeply rewarding to build these connections and see students open up, laugh, and find confidence together.
Music, Community, & Connection
Music has continued to be a central part of my growth at Deakin. I created music ensembles that bring together students from diverse cultures, and even co-formed a band with international students, where music became our shared language. Playing as a violinist in the Maroondah Symphony Orchestra has connected me to the wider Melbourne community, while my music teaching roles at Dynamic Music Studios and Musical Avenue and work as a secondary school maths tutor have allowed me to apply what I’m studying in education directly to my teaching practice, adapting strategies from my education major to meet the unique needs of each student.
Where My Passions Meet
At Deakin, I’ve learned that my passion sits at the intersection of education, creativity, and service. Every experience whether in the classroom, on stage, in a design studio, or with a student has been part of shaping my vision of education as something holistic, inclusive, and transformative.
